We have an amazing volunteer family here at The Food Centre and are looking to expand our team. The Food Centre volunteers are the people that keep the supermarket moving, flourishing and improving lives each day.

We are looking for various new volunteers in the below roles:

Employment and Education Mentor

Skills:

  • Able to assist others to find work, apply for jobs, look into education and other learning options.
  • This person will need to be able to call, email and advocate for and with others.
  • Have confidence in searching on job sites.
  • Have confidence in writing resumes and cover letters.

Requirements:

Available one morning or afternoon each week (3-4 hours).

Training:

On the job training can be provided if necessary.


No Interest Loan Scheme Volunteer Administrator 

Would you like to help people in need?

Do you have good attention to detail?

Are you confident working with numbers?

We are currently looking for someone to help us administer the no interest loan scheme provided by Good Shepherd Microfinance

What is NILS?

The No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) provides individuals and families on low incomes access to safe, fair and affordable credit, as an alternative to pay-day lenders and rent to buy schemes. Maximum loan amounts vary but can be as little as $300 or as much as $1500, for essential goods and services. The product has no fees, no charges and no interest.

Skills:

  1. Ability to establish rapport with customers from diverse backgrounds and complex needs and provide efficient and high quality customer service. Experience in any of the following areas would be helpful; retail, hospitality, sales, banking, education or other customer service environment.
  2. Strong numeric capability.
  3. Excellent spoken and written English; multilingual is desirable.
  4. Experience in administrative and office management processes such as appointment management, record keeping and filing.
  5. Competent in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and use of customer databases, with an ability to pay attention to detail.
  6. The capacity and commitment to work in alignment with the values of Good Shepherd and understand the issue of financial exclusion in Australia.

Training:

On the job training will be provided.


Local grocery volunteer

Skills:

  • Able to engage with local farmers.
  • Able to drive and collect fresh fruit and vegetables from our local community.
  • Able to work in a team with external growers and warehouse volunteers.

Requirements:

  • Available one morning each week.
  • Drivers licence (manual).
  • Light and heavy lifting may be required.

Training:

On the job training can be provided if necessary.
