Origins and Purpose

Community Food SA - a not-for-profit charity. Community Food SA is a not-for-profit community based charity that was established to assist people to overcome poverty and prevent vulnerable families and individuals from succumbing to the recurring cycle of poverty.

Sharing the Love of Christ. The underlying principle on which Community Food SA is founded is the Christian aim of sharing the love of Christ with others. The service is available without geographical restriction to low income people of all creeds and nationalities.

Affordable assistance to people in need. We provide affordable groceries, clothing and household goods and social interaction through our grocery shop, Mel's Op Shop and Arnolds Place Coffee Shop.

Work Experience. We offer placements for people to obtain work experience through which they learn to mix with others from all walks of life and gain skills and self confidence equipping them to be competitive when seeking work in the paid work force.

Established in 1989.  Community Food SA was established in 1989 by Christians from a number of churches in and around Blair Athol and commenced operating in the Community Centre at Gepps Cross primary school on 4th July, 1990 under the name of Enfield Community Food Centre,. The service quickly outgrew the shared classroom that it occupied at Gepps Cross and relocated to Cromwell Road Kilburn in October 1993 where it remained until relocating to 580 Main North Road Gepps Cross in August 2010. The CEO is Neville Mibus.

Savings to Customers. Since 1990 Community Food SA has provided over $11 million worth of groceries, saving its customers an estimated $3.2 million. In addition to providing groceries to families in need, Community Food SA provides groceries to Welfare agencies to assist them in providing their own services. Here at Community Food SA we are on the hunt for bargains wherever we can find them and when we do, we purchase enough to supply our customers until we find another bargain. Our range of stock varies however you can still choose from over 1,500 lines of groceries including:
